Skiing Trip 2026!

Over February half term, the Science Department led by Ms Sabic took 40 year 10 and 12 students to Italian Dolomites, the region where the Winter Olympic Games took place this year.

We stayed in a nice hotel (Orsa Maggiore) where the staff were really friendly and didn't mind opening room doors to locked out children many times during the week.  Some enjoyed the games room and even the sauna at the hotel.

The skiing was adventurous to say the least. Most days were very cold, but beautiful and sunny, except for Thursday 19th February, when it snowed and snowed... and snowed all day. In the amount of time we took to have lunch on the mountain, the snow got so deep, that some of us decided not to ski that afternoon, to prevent (further) injuries!

All our students made huge progress with their skiing skills and most got to the top of the mountain by the end of the week.

We also had a swimming evening which turned out to be a bit of a water party with some races, floats, and lots of balls flying around the pool.

The ice skating evening was also enjoyable, with Euan showing off his amazing skills and flying past us like a bullet repeatedly.

On Thursday evening, we had a presentation. The instructors visited us at the hotel, and gave out certificates. It was a good photo opportunity and nice to see the instructors' faces without all the ski gear!

The inbound journey on Saturday 21st February was almost as long as the outbound one. Almost 24 hours on the coach. But, we made it back and we are still recovering!

I would like to thank our amazing students for following all our instructions almost perfectly, which ensured a very smooth running of all planned events. Everyone who had contact with our students (NST staff, the hotel staff, ski shop, coach drivers etc) commented on how polite, kind, and well-mannered Dane Court students were, and what a pleasure it was to have them.

Last quote from Freya year 12:  My highlight of the trip was when Mr Hatcher got taught by our instructor more than we did, and crawling through the snow.

Developing knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.
