Dane Court celebrates International Baccalaureate results

Sixth Form students at Dane Court Grammar School are celebrating another excellent set of results in their International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.

The average score on the IB Diploma is an impressive 35.2 points, which far exceeds the global average and is equivalent to 192 UCAS points (A*A*A at A Level). 53% of students achieved a score of 35 points or above.

An impressive 24% of students achieved 38 points, equivalent to a standard offer at Oxford University.

A remarkable 10% of students attained 40 points and above, the equivalent of 3A* at A Level, placing them in the highest echelons of UK academic achievement.

Once again, our IB curriculum pathways at Dane Court have proven to be an excellent springboard for prestigious university destinations.  Three students were offered places to study at Oxford University, and DP, CP and Bespoke students are moving on to a wide range of courses, from Medicine and Computer Science to History and Law, many at leading Russell Group providers. Five students have confirmed places to study Medicine or Veterinary Medicine, having excelled on our DC Aspiring Medics Programme. The vast majority of students are progressing on to their first-choice university destination.

Here are just some of the individual successes celebrated by top performing Diploma students at Dane Court this year:

  • Nia Ryan achieved an exceptional full-mark score of 45 points, and has won a place to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham

  • Sama Bugren achieved 44 points and has exceeded her offer to study Medicine at Queen Mary University of London

  • Michaela Murphy has scored 43 points and has exceeded her offer to study Medicine at the University of Oxford

  • Harrison Martin also achieved 43 points and will study Maths and Physics at the University of Durham

  • Faye Elliott achieved 42 points and has exceeded her offer to study Biology at the University of Oxford

  • Gabriel Hillier-Bowman achieved 42 points and will study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh

  • Our Head Student, George Randall, achieved 41 points and will study Law with French at King’s College London

In addition, our IB Careers-Related Programme students are celebrating exceptional results as 68% of the cohort have achieved D*/D or above in the vocational subjects released so far. 56% of the IBCP cohort have also been awarded an A or B grade in their Reflective Project – a core component that requires the study of an ethical dilemma in their vocational subject.

The strength and breadth of the IB pathways has enabled high-achieving students to choose between degree courses at Russell Group universities and paid, degree-level apprenticeship programmes. Nathan Gardner achieved a Double Starred Distinction (D*D*) in BTEC Sport within his CP programme and has won a place to study Cardiac Physiology at the University of Southampton. CP students are celebrating a wide range of university offers from Business Management at Exeter, to Sports Science at Loughborough. Four CP students have used the international prestige of the IB as a springboard towards highly-prized sporting scholarships at American universities. Other students are in line for impressive apprenticeship and employment opportunities in areas such as engineering, healthcare and accountancy.

Headteacher, Martin Jones, said: “These are superb results, and we are immensely proud of every student celebrating today. The IB is a challenging and rewarding curriculum, and our students have shown real commitment and ambition throughout their studies. My thanks go to our exceptional staff team and to families for the support they have given. It is wonderful to see our students moving on to such exciting destinations, from Oxford and Russell Group universities to competitive apprenticeships and international opportunities. ”
