Year 7 Musical Learning
.pdf.jpg)
Year 7 have been learning about Gamelan, the traditional music of Java and Bali this term. Gamelan are pitched percussion orchestras made up of gongs and metallophones and vary between Java and Bali. This music is used for entertainment, story telling, and celebration. It often accompanies a shadow puppetry called Wayang Kulit.
In their final lesson, Mrs Warren organised for Sonielle in year 12 to come and give a talk to year 7 students on the practices and traditions of Wayang Kulit, having studied it for her IB theatre course. Students were able to have a go at being the Dalang (puppeteer) and manipulated Sonielle’s puppets behind a linen screen. They had great fun! Thanks to Sonielle for sharing her learning with us!
