Contraband The Battle of the Bands Competition

We are thrilled to share the fantastic news from Contraband, the high-energy Battle of the Bands competition organized by the Canterbury Festival’s youth engagement team! On Friday, 31st October, a phenomenal group of 20 talented Dane Court students took to the stage to showcase their musical skills.

The event featured nine strong bands from across Kent, and Dane Court was superbly represented by five exceptional groups: Morse Code, Basket Case, Distortion, Rattled, and False Warning! The standard of musicianship was truly impressive, making for a thrilling evening of performances.

The coveted First Place prize was ultimately secured by Gumbo, a highly talented sixth-form band. However, the excitement didn't end there! The judges were so captivated by one of our bands that they awarded a special, unofficial Second Place and a brilliant £100 prize to our very own Year 9 superstars, Basket Case!

This achievement is nothing short of incredible. Our Year 9 musicians went head-to-head with older, more experienced competitors, including many sixth-form students, and absolutely held their own, earning a distinguished runner-up position. It’s a powerful testament to their dedication, talent, and passion for music!

A massive, heartfelt congratulations goes out to every single student who participated. You all represented Dane Court with passion and skill, and we could not be more proud of your success at Contraband!

Developing knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.
