Dane Court students celebrate record-breaking Oxbridge Offers

Nine Year 13 Students have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge this year.

Nine students from Dane Court Grammar School are celebrating after receiving
offers from Oxford or Cambridge.

Head of Sixth Form, Andrew Coventon said: ‘we are ecstatic at having beaten our
previous record, with five students receiving offers from Oxford and four receiving
offers from Cambridge. Once again our students’ IB curriculum pathways have provided an excellent
springboard for applications to top destinations’.

The students with Oxford offers are Milo Ainsworth (Medicine, St John’s College),
Gregor Hutchison (Computer Science, Merton College), Louis Eldred (Chemistry,
Worcester College), Rebecca Warren (English, St Hugh’s) and Connie Chesters
(Music, Queen’s College). The four Cambridge offer holders are Ed Dunne
(Computer Science, Fitzwilliam College), Laurie Stephenson (Geography, Queens’
College), Sophia Peall (English, Murray Edwards) and Zuzanna Harmacinska
(Architecture, Pembroke College).

Milo Ainsworth, who will study Medicine at St John’s College, Oxford said:  ‘studying the IB has been a huge asset to my medical school application. The breadth of study has allowed me to maintain crucial skills in English and Maths alongside my STEM subjects and being able to study a unique subject like Anthropology made me stand out to universities. I also received a mock interview and work experience through the school’s Aspiring Medics Programme, the feedback from which was incredibly helpful‘.

Students across the whole sixth form have been receiving very impressive offers,
with high numbers progressing on to Russell Group universities and others securing
prestigious apprenticeships in areas such as engineering, business administration
and software design. The IB’s status as the world’s gold-standard Post-16
qualification has also led to a number of students gaining offers at top universities in
America and Europe in recent years.

Mr Coventon added: ‘we are committed to providing students with the individual
support they need to fulfil their ambitions, whether that’s university or an
apprenticeship pathway. We are delighted to celebrate their success’.

Developing knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.
