Medical Needs and Support
Dane Court Grammar School is committed to ensuring that students with medical conditions are properly supported to allow them to access the same education as other students, including school trips and sporting activities. Student wellbeing will be taken into account in regard to their medical conditions and its impact on their life.
We work closely with families, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure tailored support, clear emergency protocols, and minimal disruption to learning.
You can see our policy on supporting students with medical conditions here.
Our Approach
Individual Care Plans: Custom Individual Healthcare Plans (IHCPs) created in partnership with parents and healthcare providers.
Trained Staff: Qualified first-aiders and trained staff members designated for specific medical conditions (e.g., diabetes management, EpiPen administration).
Safe Storage: Secure, temperature-controlled storage for routine and emergency medications.
Inclusion & Support: Where appropriate, tailored adjustments for PE, school trips, exams, and reintegration after extended medical absence.
Requesting Support
To ensure your child's medical needs are met safely, please follow the process below:
-
Notify the School as soon as a medical condition is diagnosed or changes. Please email the school office or your child's Year Lead.
-
Allergies: Use this form to notify the school of a newly diagnosed allergy.
-
Individual Healthcare Plan: You will be sent an IHCP form to complete. Please ensure all forms are completed with as much detail as possible and returned without delay so that we can get the appropriate support in place for your child.
-
Medication: Please ensure all medication is handed in directly to the main office in its original, labelled packaging as well as completing the consent to administer medication form. This applies to all routine/controlled medication. Emergency medications such as Adrenaline Auto Injectors and Asthma inhalers should be held by the student with a spare held in the school office.
If you need to discuss your child's medical needs or update an existing care plan, please contact the school office.
