Music Cup 2024

At the end of the spring term, the Music department held the first House Music Cup competition since 2019.

House captains were prepared weeks in advance with lists of songs, students and categories for the competition. Three categories were stipulated: a group vocal performance, a group instrumental performance and a captain's choice group, playing to the house's strength.

We were very lucky to be joined by three guest judges on the day: Composer and Producer, Laurie Blundell, known for his recent work with Tom Odell; Composer and Producer Adem, known for his work with Fridge and Hot Chip; and our Chair of Governors, Vicky Crawley. Judges did a remarkable job of scoring each performance under great time pressure; we are very grateful for their contribution to the proceedings!

Every house, captain and competitor did brilliantly to prepare self-led group performances for each category in the six week window. Particular hats off to Gregor for arranging a piece for Sorrento in the Vocal category, and to Connie and Joel for arranging for Delphi in the Vocal and Instrumental categories.

The House Music Cup is now displayed in the trophy cabinet, proudly showcasing Barcelona colours, where it will remain until this time next year. Who knows who might win next year, who is prepared to challenge Barcelona for the House Music Cup in 2025?
