Life in the Sixth Form does not revolve entirely around academic study! An important part of sixth form life is the extra degree of freedom you are offered and thus the opportunity you have to enjoy life as part of a community.
Sixth form areas
The Heart and canteen space are central meeting areas, with snacks available all day. Several sixth form 'Pods' (complete with computer workstations) are available for study throughout the day.
Sixth form reps
At the start of the year you will nominate a ‘Sixth Form Rep’ from your tutor group who will meet with the others, and a member of the sixth form staff on a regular basis to discuss matters of importance to you. This is a forum for organising activities or initiating new ideas.
Sixth form Revue
This is a major event at the end of term 2. It is organised by members of the Sixth Form (usually in Year 13) and the ‘Tech Team’. A non-competitive talent show, it has in the past showcased bands, solo artists, dancers, comedy sketches and, of course, a teachers’ act that involves the minimum rehearsal time possible. We need people to take part, organise and film it. Proceeds from DVD sales can be used for charity or to subsidise a Sixth Form event.
Leavers’ Day
On the last day of ‘taught’ lessons there is a major celebration involving fancy dress, distribution of the Yearbook (organised and edited by a team who start work in Year 12) and the consumption of large quantities of cake! Again, the details of the event can be changed or re-organised by the year group in question.
Leavers’ Ball
This is a hugely important night for Year 13, usually held on the day you hand back your books. It is organised and ‘choreographed’ by Year 13 students who may also run some fund-raising activities to subsidise it. It is always a memorable occasion, the last 3 years have used St Augustine at Birchington as a venue.
