The highlight of this week was our first entry for many years in the National Track and Field Schools Cup. The competition took place on a wet and windy Tuesday afternoon at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford which saw our young athletes competing at a high quality venue, many for the first time. With full teams in Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Intermediate Boys and Intermediate Girls we made the journey in the knowledge that our students would compete with determination but unaware of the quality of opposition. Athletics is a very real strength of the school and one that continues to build and our experiences at this event have done nothing to dampen that view.

Week beginning 29 April 2013
Aside from the Senior Girls Kent Cup final this week we also had a number of other fixtures. Our year nine cricket team made the journey to St Edmund's of Canterbury and despite a man of the match performance from Ben Pledger they suffered a heavy defeat on the same day the year seven boys contested just their second game+ of cricket, this time in the Kent Cup against Chatham House. They also suffered a defeat but will look to implement the lessons they learned in their future fixtures.

On Wednesday 15 May students from years 8, 10, 11 and 13 travelled to Herne Bay High School to take part in the first round of the Kent Schools Bouldering League. The climbing competition is in its fourth year but this is the first time Dane Court has participated.
Enthusiastic performances from all four schools involved made for a great atmosphere of encouragement with some older competitors even coaching the younger climbers between their attempts. Full results are posted on the league website.

The year ten boys had their first cricket fixture of the year on Tuesday as they took on St Edmund's of Canterbury and thankfully it was played in glorious sunshine. Our opponents always provide tough opposition at any level and victories are hard to come by however our performance in all aspects of the game was very creditable being so early in the season and a comfortable victory was the outcome.

Year Seven - Harvey Grammar 12 - 17 Dane Court
On Tuesday the year seven boys played their final game against Harvey Grammar and came away with an outstanding seventeen to twelve victory. With the wind in their favour the team completely dominated territory in the first half as Harvey Grammar failed to get out of their own half.

On Sunday 17 of March Josh Escudier of year seven came second in the south of England Judo Championships. He won three of his four fights narrowly losing out in the final, an excellent achievement for young Josh.
Monday witnessed the now annual charity game between years twelve and thirteen, the game was played in a good spirit and pleasingly after last years drab nil-nil there were plenty of goals. The year thirteen team ran out eventual winners with four-two scoreline.
The year seven boys rugby team visited QES on the same day securing a twenty-one to nineteen victory. Yet another close game as seems to be a theme for many of our rugby fixtures this term. The team showed impressive character to bounce back from their loss last week to secure this keenly contested victory. The winning points were scored by Josh Escudier with two tries, skipper Frank Perkins with one and Josh Chivilo with three conversions.
