Dane Court as an ‘outstanding’ grammar school, is heavily over-subscribed in all year groups and holds waiting lists. The school also requires prospective students to have passed an admissions test. Please read the following advice carefully before making an application to the school via the local education authority.
The latest admissions information for Dane Court
Year 6 Entry into Year 7 in September 2012
Congratulations to all those students who worked hard and passed the Kent Test. If you would like to come to Dane Court, please put it first on your Secondary Application Form. You will be given your first choice on this form unless the school is oversubscribed. Last year, all Year 6 students who put Dane Court first and passed the Kent Test were offered a place. This included children who lived further away from the school in areas such as St Nicholas-at-Wade and Herne Bay. If your son/daughter has not passed the Kent Test and you would like to appeal for a place at Dane Court, you can do this from 2 March 2012 onwards. Appeal forms will accompany the letter informing you of the school your child has been awarded. Unfortunately, you cannot appeal for a place before the 2 March. Please make sure that you have completed and returned the documentation by 22 March 2012. Appeals are usually held in June or possibly earlier. The LEA will then notify you of the time and date of your appeal approximately a couple of weeks in advance of the hearing. The school cannot advise you about what can be included as part of your appeal. Please discuss this with the headteacher of your child’s primary school if you are unsure. In March 2012, if your child has not gained a place at Dane Court and he/she has passed the Kent Test, please complete the green Waiting List Request Form and return it by 22 March 2012. If there are any spare places these will be reallocated from 2 April 2012 onwards. If a place does not become available, your case can go to appeal if you submit an Appeal Form together with any supporting documentation sent with your Waiting List Request Form. The waiting list is based on the school’s oversubscription criteria. This information will be sent to you on 1 March by Kent LEA when they notify you of the school your child has been awarded.
You can appeal and/or request a place on the waiting list of more than one school. If your son/daughter has not taken the Kent Test, please see the relevant section below.

- You will know the result of the Kent Test before making your choice of schools.
- If your child has passed the Kent Test, you must put Dane Court first on the ‘Secondary Common Application Form’.
- If your child has not passed the Kent Test but you want to appeal for a place, you must put Dane Court on your ‘Secondary Common Application Form’, to allow you to lodge an appeal as early as possible.
It is important that you make sure that your son/daughter takes the Kent Test and that Dane Court is your first choice, if you would like a place at the school. The school cannot consider any applications to Dane Court without the child having taken the Kent Test. The ‘Secondary Common Application Form’ must be completed for entry to Dane Court Grammar School. This is part of a central admissions system organised by the education authority, not the school. They will be able to answer any questions regarding the admissions process as well as your child’s current primary school. We are delighted to answer any further queries you may have. Open days and evenings are held annually. Full details are published in the press and on the website, or available from the school office. Fliers are also sent to all the local primary schools. If you miss the Open Day or would like a further visit, tours can be arranged for another time with Mr. Felstead, the Admissions Officer. There is always something exciting happening at Dane Court to make a visit an interesting and memorable occasion regardless of the time of year. If you would like a tour of the entire new school and its fantastic facilities, please contact the school reception (01843-864941).
